The Ptarmigan

-Apparence:In summer the males are easily distinguishable by the reddish-brown head and back and chest,In winter both sexes are white, except for the tails and eyes blacks, legs and feet are feathered.

-Diet:Winter diet includes the buds and twigs of willows, birch and alders. In the summer, the young feed on insects and plants, while adults eat leaves, berries and seeds, but only a few insects.
-Reproduction information:The male is the space between others, to find a location for the nest (which is under a bush.) He shows the plumage and makes ways similar to those of civetta.Il companion remains in the nest to incubate the eggs (which are brownish yellow), which are 7-10.The eggs hatch between 22 days and the chicks stay with their mother, who feed on insects and plants. As autumn approaches the mother prepares the young immigration.

-Habitat:The only nesting Pyarmigant in Alberta is located in the mountains of Jasper National Park and Willmore Wilderness Park. The birds spend the summer in the alpine zone and winter in the valleys. Then there is another nesting Ptarmigan visiting Alberta in winter only. These birds nest in the Arctic tundra and migrate south to spend the winter in Northern Alberta.
